This is a BILL GRAHAM PRESENTS OTIS RUSH CHICAGO BLUES BAND handbill (#BG053-PC) from a concert at the FILLMORE WEST in San Francisco, Ca. Also on the bill: THE MOTHERS OF INVENTION. This is a 1st PRINTING B card. The postcard was printed once before the concert, but the “split fountain technique” led to several variants within this run. 1st printing B is characterized by tan and green in the top portion of the card. It measures 4 3/4″ x 8″ and is the most valued of the 4 variants. This card is in very nice shape with some pinholes at the corners, a piece of tape at the top and some edge wear. NO FOLDS!
The yin-yang of Wes Wilson’s universe features prominently in BG053. The male and female figures appear Native American, worshipers who, like Wilson, used plant-derived drugs to access the spirit world, and are two aspects of one soul; day and night, sun and moon.
Promoters created handbill versions of many of their posters and used them as handouts and fliers to promote upcoming shows. These handbills represent an important element of music history because they are unique marketing tools that are still used today. Another chance to snag a piece of music history.
