NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND THE BYRDS BB KING Fillmore “JOINED” Mailer (Nov 30th 1967)

This is a rare BILL GRAHAM PRESENTS “JOINED” DOUBLE handbill/postcard mailer (#BG095-PC & BG096-PC) from concerts at FILLMORE WEST in San Francisco, Ca. FAR fewer of these exist than either individual handbill, which were cut from these pre-concert double-sized postcard mailers. This mailer is in nice shape with a few pin holes at the corners and a small piece of tape at the top and bottom where the card was sealed for mailing. Folded at the seam between the two cards.
Country-rock innovators Nitty Gritty Dirt Band played with ultra-loud power-trio Blue Cheer on a Bonnie MacLean design in which the bands were an easily readable drape of the nobleman’s cape. For the 2nd card, flower-power and mythology were interwoven to conceal an aviary in MacLean’s predominantly red-white-and-blue, water-color design.
Promoters created handbill versions of many of their posters and used them as handouts and fliers to promote upcoming shows. These handbills represent an important element of music history because they are unique marketing tools that are still used today. Another chance to snag a piece of music history.
