This is a BILL GRAHAM PRESENTS THE ROLLING STONES Oakland Coliseum Postcard (BG-201) from a concert at the OAKLAND COLISEUM in Oakland, Ca. Nov 9th, 1969. This postcard marks the FIRST TIME the Stones played for Bill Graham. The handbill was only printed once before the concert and measures approx. 4 5/8″ x 7 1/4″. It is in nice shape with just one small tack hole at the top some minimal general wear, most notably at the lower corners. Design by Randy Tuten. This piece of rock history will look awesome in a frame!
The Rolling Stones concert in November, 1969 included a lot of firsts: the first time the band played for Bill Graham, the first time Graham booked a place as large as the Oakland Coliseum and the first time Graham saw a performance contract that included a rider detailing what the band expected in amenities on the road. Graham and The Stones had a rocky relationship, and the egos of Bill and Mick Jagger clashed frequently and monumentally.
Promoters created handbill versions of many of their posters and used them as handouts and fliers to promote upcoming shows. These handbills represent an important element of music history because they are unique marketing tools that are still used today. Another chance to snag a piece of music history.
